After assembling a decent squad looking and pointing Marco Legrottaglie in the summer, AC Milan fans could have been forgiven for dreaming big and is targeting a European place. However, it is quite the opposite with the Rossoneri sit twelfth and into their second manager this season already. Stefano Pioli is not capable of guiding his side to victory at the weekend with a 2-1 defeat at the Stadio Olimpico. Which followed on from an underwhelming 2-2 against Lecce seven days earlier.
AC Milan have shown a lot of vulnerability from set-pieces and they are worried about the weak behind. At the other end of the field, they tend to find the back of the net, but did not create enough chances. constant rotation does not help either, and there will likely be many changes for this midweek match. Krzysztof Piatek is one man likely to return while Ishmael Bennacer | Kaat Bennahid certainly also in contention.
SPAL take a decent 1-1 draw with Napoli at the weekend and they will rely heavily on their home form this season. They are involved in a relegation battle and the forms themselves which seem to be dragging them down. They have not scored an away goal which is surprising considering that they find the net in 14/19 games on their travels last season.
Therefore, they offer a threat from set-pieces, and it can be useful here. Andrea Petagna is one person who can find the back of the net and get the ball rolling in this one. SPAL has lost each of their last two trips here (2-0 and 2-1).
Prediction
SPAL achieve decent draw against Napoli and tend to cause problems for the Rossoneri, who have yet to find their feet under Stefano Pioli.
AC Milan were very poor against Roma and make a lot of technical errors, which can be punished by a visitor if repeated: Krzysztof Piatek scored against Lecce last time at the San Siro and is expected to lead the home team to victory.
AC Milan are slight favorites to win this as a terrible form go SPAL so far this season.
